Olivia Wilde (born Olivia Jane Cockburn; March 10, 1984) is an American actress and model. She began acting in the early 2000s, and has since appeared in a number of film and television parts, including roles in the serial-drama The O.C. and The Black Donnellys. She portrays Dr. Remy “Thirteen” Hadley in the TV drama House, and in 2010 starred as Quorra in Tron: Legacy.

Wilde returned to the states and took up residence in Los Angeles, where she landed the lead in her first television series, "Skin" (Fox, 2003), a modern day take on "Romeo and Juliette" in which she played the sultry daughter of an adult film producer (Ron Silver) who falls for the son (D.J. Cotrona) of an anti-porn district attorney (Kevin Anderson). "Skin" came and went after only three episodes, leaving Wilde to find work elsewhere. Keeping with the adult film theme, she made her movie debut with a supporting role in "The Girl Next Door" (2004), a coming-of-age comedy about a straight-arrow overachiever (Emile Hirsch) who falls for his neighbor (Elisha Cuthbert), only to find out that she used to be a porn star. Meanwhile, after "Skin" was canceled, Wilde eloped with Los Angeles Filmmaker's Cooperative (LAFCO) founder and documentary filmmaker, Tao Ruspoli. Upon returning to Los Angeles, she was one of the key models in Abercrombie & Fitch's "Rising Stars" campaign in the summer of 2004. But it was her next television role that put Wilde on the map for good.

Returning to the small screen, Wilde began starring on "The O.C." and delivered a lusty portrayal of the stunningly sexy and bisexual Alex Kelly, the bad girl owner of the Bait Shop, where the other kids start hanging out. Though only on the show for its second season, Wilde was dynamic and provocative as the temptress Kelly, stealing the show from the rest of the cast and attracting many male fans, especially after her character became romantically involved with Marissa Cooper (Mischa Barton). As she continued her work on "The O.C.," Wilde landed roles in feature films, including Nicholas Kazan's hotly anticipated Sundance Film Festival favorite, "Alpha Dog" (2006), co-starring Justin Timberlake, Sharon Stone and Emile Hirsch. After a small part in the critically acclaimed adaptation of "Running with Scissors" (2006), she played a college sorority girl who steals the prized notebook of a reclusive freshman (Patrick Fugit) in "Bickford Shmeckler's Cool Ideas" (2006), a straight-to-DVD comedy that barely registered with audiences.

Despite making strides on the big screen, Wilde continued to find greater success, as well as meatier roles, on television. She next had a prominent starring role in the short-lived drama, "The Black Donnellys" (NBC, 2006), playing the childhood friend of the Donnelly brothers (Tom Guiry, Jonathan Tucker, Billy Lush and Michael Stahl-David) who runs a local Hells Kitchen diner with her father and has a complicated relationship with one of the brothers. After the show was canceled in the middle of its first season due to declining ratings, she rebounded quickly by landing a supporting part on the highly successful medical drama, "House" (Fox, 2004- ). Wilde played Dr. Remy "Thirteen" Hadley, a new member of the infectious diseases diagnostic team formed by the irascible Dr. House (Hugh Laurie) who remains mysterious about her personal life, though overtime audiences learn that she carries the gene for Huntington's disease. Her nickname, Thirteen, derived from the number she received in the competition House conducted to find his new team. Back on the big screen, she played Princess Inanna in the biblical comedy flop, "Year One" (2009), starring Jack Black and Michael Cera. She next co-starred opposite Jeff Bridges and Garrett Hedlund in "Tron: Legacy" (2010), a long in-the-works remake of the cult favorite from 1982 that fared well at the box office, but failed to win over a substantial amount of critics. Following a supporting turn in the mildly received Paul Haggis thriller "The Next Three Days" (2010), Wilde played a denizen of an Old West town beset by a surprising alien invasion in the sci-fi/Western hybrid "Cowboys & Aliens" (2011).

Biography

Olivia Wilde
Born in New York City on March 10, 1984, Olivia Wilde was christened Olivia Jane Cockburn (her later change of surname was inspired by Oscar Wilde). She was brought up in Washington DC, by her father Andrew, a National Geographic reporter and her mother, Leslie, a writer and also a producer for '60 minutes' from CBS.
After leaving the Georgetown Day School in Washington, Olivia enrolled at the Philips Academy in Andover, MA, studying acting. She appeared in over 20 school drama productions. Next came a move abroad to Ireland, where she continued her acting studies at the Gaiety School of Acting in Dublin. After completing the course she returned to live in Los Angeles.
Wilde's first role came in 2003, in the exciting but short-lived TV drama Skin, in which she played a lead part, Jewel Goldman, the sexy daughter of a adult-movie producer. The show only lasted 3 episodes, leaving Olivia again looking for work. Though her personal life was proving more successful - she married documentary filmmaker Tao Ruspoli later that same year.

It was her next television role, though, that really brought her to the viewing fans' attention. Cast as smoking-hot temptress Alex Kelly on The O.C., Olivia shot to stardom attracting the attention of a legion of male admirers. Olivia was also to appear in supporting roles for mainstream movies like The Girl Next Door with Elisha Cuthbert, Alpha Dog with Sharon Stone, and Running with Scissors which co-starred Gwyneth Paltrow.
In 2007, Olivia was cast in the hit TV series House M.D., playing a young doctor with the nickname 13, opposite the lead character played by Hugh Laurie. Her nickname comes from the number she received in the competition House staged to select his new team. Olivia's character has terminal Huntingdon's disease, which should keep the actress on her toes because presumably she can be written out at any moment.
In the summer of 2009, Wilde starred opposite Michael Cera and Jack Black in the film Year One, a biblical-era comedy about two friends who get banished from their village and embark on an epic journey.

Olivia Wilde’s French Girl Golden Globes Makeover

Tron starlet Olivia Wilde kicked off 2011 with a major hair makeover by getting statement-making bangs.

Thick fringe hairstyles can sometimes be overwhelming, but she got the right mix of looking bold and beautiful at the 2011 Golden Globe Awards.

“Olivia’s entire look was inspired by images she collected of what she refers to as ‘the French girl’,” says celebrity makeup artist Spencer Barnes who created her red carpet look. From her effortless-looking straight hairstyle to her chic subtly smoky eyes, Wilde was definitely très jolie.

To create her hairstyle, celebrity hairstylist Terry Mullet used Kérastase Volumactive Mousse on wet hair, then blow dried her hair while shaking it out to build body. Once it was almost dry, he started to use a round brush at the ends to give it a clean, just-washed look. Once dry, he lightly massaged Kérastase Oleo-Relax Serum on ends.

“I wanted her skin to look fresh and clean with eyes that extended outward. Touches of rose gold and sheer pink-veiled lips completed her youthful coquette-ish look,” says Barnes of Wilde’s makeup. He used all new products from the Nars 2011 Spring Collection (launching in February): Hollywoodland Soft Touch Shadow, Mambo Eyeliner Pencil, Madere Pure Matte Lipstick, and Frivolous Velvet Gloss Lip Pencil.

Olivia Wilde on Her New Collaboration with Alternative Apparel and Wanting to Design Again

Last night Alternative Apparel and Olivia Wilde celebrated the launch of the Message Bag–the result of a collaboration between the two hosts and Wilde’s best friend Barbara ‘Babs’ Burchfield, which will benefit the Academy for Peace and Justice in Haiti.
We happened to arrive at the event just as Wilde and co-designer Burchfield stepped out of their taxi. Despite being ridiculously beautiful (her green eyes are exquisite), Olivia seemed much more like a cool, normal girl hanging with her bestie than the A-list movie star that she is. Perhaps it’s because she takes her role as activist and philanthropist seriously and happens to be just as comfortable toting her messenger bag around Haiti as walking a red carpet. How many actresses who’ve scored the number one spot on Maxim’s Hot 100 can say that?

Naturally, Olivia and Babs were both carrying the limited edition Message Bag, an army green, canvas bag that doubles as a cross body and a backpack. The bag retails for $138 and is sold on Shopbop.com and in Alternative Apparel stores. A portion of the proceeds benefits the Academy for Peace and Justice, a secondary school in Port-au-Prince, Haiti funded by Oscar-winning filmmaker Paul Haggis’s charity, Artists for Peace and Justice.

The event took place at the James Hotel, where Erica Domesek of P.S. I Made This helped members of the media customize their bag with stencils and studs. Before Olivia headed to the DIY table to stencil O.W. onto hers, we had a quick chat with her and Babs to learn more about what their work in Haiti means to them.

Fashionista: Tell us about your collaboration with Alternative Apparel.
Olivia Wilde: Babs and I have worked with [the Academy for Peace and Justice] since 2008 raising money for their various projects through a local organization on the ground. We started to feel that the traditional means of fundraising was getting tiresome. You know, just asking people for money. We thought about mixing passions of ours: philanthropy and fashion. We were dreaming of having a product that would have a purpose and the proceeds of which would go to this school.

How did you decide on creating a bag?
Barbara Burchfield: A bag is something that we constantly use in Haiti on our trips every other month. Olivia had an old vintage army bag that we used all the time and threw everything in from bug spray to stuff for the kids. A bag also represents kids being in school. Kids fill their school bags with all their personal things and what they need. It kind of represents our low-key style.

What would people be surprised to know about Haiti?
OW: It is known for its artists. There is an incredible artist community. It is also one of the most beautiful places on earth. It is a gem of the western hemisphere. We are always encouraging people to discover that for themselves– to visit and swim in the crystal clear oceans, see the beautiful cliffs and waterfalls and not to write off Haiti as a disaster and depressing place.

Would you ever consider designing more in the future?
OW: Yes! I was a total novice. We came to Alternative with the dream to help us recreate this army bag of mine, and they totally modernized it and made it really cool. I’m a big fan of their clothes. They’re so flattering! So, as far as being a designer, I am a total student but I would absolutely love to do it again. I would also love to encourage people to be conscious about the way they are exploring fashion. People shouldn’t feel guilty about buying clothes but should buy with a conscience and keep in mind where their money is going to go.

She has wanted to become an actress since the age of two. For a short time, Wilde's family had a house in Guilford, Vermont. Although, it's not like she's the hottest woman in the world." She was also ranked No.95 on the FHM 100 Sexiest Women of 2006. She was seen in flashbacks of Paige's past, where she befriended Quorra, not knowing that she was an ISO at the time.
